SGS Announces the Appointment of its New Wind Energy Technology Center Manager

On March 15, 2010, SGS announced Dr. Pavel Novak as the new manager of the Wind Energy Technology Center in Tianjin, China. Pavel will be responsible for business development of the test center, extending business contacts in China and worldwide as well as staff training. Moreover, with his technical expertise, he will also focus on procurement of equipment, build-up and commissioning of the test center.

Dr. Pavel Novak received his diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and his PhD from the Technical University of Berlin. He wrote his PhD thesis on the structural optimization of thick-walled hybrid composite structures.

His career began at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin, Germany, where he gained experience in scientific steering of national and international research projects and in coordination of activities in the test laboratory. His research focused on numerical and experimental investigation of composite’s structural behavior and on development of appropriate Non-Destructive Testing.

In 2007, Dr. Pavel Novak joined Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, where he worked as team manager and expert for composites. At Magna he set up and trained a team of experts in composite technology. Furthermore, as team leader he was responsible for specification, design, simulation and verification of full composite pressure cylinders for the automotive industry and facilitated the acquisition of customer projects.

On March 15, 2010, Pavel began working for SGS as the new manager of the Wind Energy Technology Center in Tianjin, China.
