SGS announces new global Wind Project Manager

Ullrich Knopf, as a global Wind Project Manager at SGS will focus on SGS Rotor Blade Development Activities. Furthermore, with his technical expertise, he will also support global wind projects.

Knopf first became involved in wind energy during his studies in mechanical engineering in Berlin, where he wrote his diploma thesis in 1986 on a wind turbine that was considered at that time to have tremendous 15 kW rated power.

With a career that began at Körber AG in Hamburg in 1986, Ullrich Knopf gained experience in the design and calculation of mechanical construction. Thereafter, he continued working as a Test Engineer in the Department of Biomechanics at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg. In 1998 he took the opportunity to work as Team Leader of the Testing Department of Alfons Haar, which supplies a great variety of hydraulic equipment to the oil industry.

In 2001 Ullrich Knopf finally came back to the wind energy business by joining the Development Department of Nordex Energy. Working for nearly 8 years as a Test and Measurement Engineer, he gained broad experience in wind turbine technology.

He started working for SGS at the 1st of January 2009 in the Wind Energy Competence Center in Germany.
Certification of wind energy projects is recommended from the very start of data acquisition for soil, wind and wave site-specific investigations. The earlier risks are detected, the earlier counter measures can be taken.
