New Sky Energy and 212 Resources Announce Partnership to Profitably Convert Wastewater Into Fresh Water, Valuable Chemicals

HOUSTON, TX — (Marketwire) — 09/27/12 — Artemis Prize winners New Sky Energy of Boulder, Colo. () and 212 Resources of Houston, Texas () announced today that they have formed a partnership that offers a profitable and revolutionary new method to treat wastewater from industry and oil and gas operations. The companies expect to launch their first joint project in December 2012.

The New Sky-212 partnership will use 212–s advanced water treatment technologies and New Sky–s clean chemical manufacturing to profitably convert produced water from oil and gas operations and industry into fresh water and valuable chemicals. By converting waste streams into fresh water and clean chemicals, the New Sky-212 treatment process minimizes brine disposal and generates significant savings on costs of hydrochloric acid, bleach and water softening agents. In a typical oil and gas field, the New Sky-212 process is projected to save 45-60 percent in chemical supply and brine disposal costs, while generating fresh water, minimizing overall environmental impact and reducing transportation costs.

Both 212 Resources and New Sky Energy were recently selected as winners of the prestigious 2012 Artemis Top 50 Listing of global water tech companies. A judging panel of 15 top water industry experts evaluated 125 of the world–s leading water technology companies. Both New Sky and 212 were selected among the top five companies in the Top 50 Listing.

New Sky Energy CEO Deane Little said, “We are excited to join forces with 212 Resources. Its advanced water treatment technology fits perfectly with New Sky–s clean chemistry to solve difficult water problems. Converting wastewater into clean chemicals and fresh water is a kind of –Holy Grail– for the water industry — a smart, profitable approach to eliminating industrial and petroleum wastewater.”

212 CEO Stephen E. Hester said, “The 212-New Sky collaboration represents a solid, technology-based approach to providing an economical –cradle to grave– solution to the water challenges facing oil and gas operations. We are looking forward to combining resources with New Sky to implement the first, full scale operation to address this market.”

With offices in Boulder, Colo. and Austin, Texas, New Sky Energy creates products and profits out of industrial and agricultural wastes, including wastewater, waste salts, and CO2. New Sky works with some of the largest energy and manufacturing companies in the world to profitably convert their industrial wastes into the chemicals they use every day. New Sky–s process converts salt and CO2 wastes into valuable chemicals, the sale of which can make water treatment and desalination projects profitable. New Sky won the 2011 Imagine H2O Wastewater Prize and was a top national finalist in the 2009 Cleantech Open. An emerging international leader in the clean tech and water treatment sectors, New Sky is inventing clean chemistries that will revolutionize 21st Century wastewater management and clean chemical manufacturing.
