Greenway Design Group, Inc. Announces Patent Award

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/26/12 — Greenway Design Group, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: GDGI) today announced the award of U.S. Patent No. 8,074,461 for its “Cool-n-Save” energy-saving innovation.

Introduced to consumers more than five years ago, the Cool-n-Save concept creates energy savings of up to 30% on –split-system– commercial and residential air conditioning systems.

“Most homes and businesses have –split-system– air conditioning,” says Darius Jakubik, Greenway–s senior vice president. “High outside heat does two things: the more heat there is, the more demand we put on the system. At the same time, the hotter it is outside, the less efficiently AC systems work.”

The Cool-n-Save innovation uses treated water mist to “pre-cool” the air around condensing coils as a means to increase energy efficiency of air conditioning systems. Engineers have been discussing the application of pre-cool technologies on air conditioning for many years.

A white paper published in 2005 by Colorado Springs Utilities reports that for every degree Fahrenheit reduction in ambient air temperature, a reduction of 1 to 1.5% in energy demand is generated. A study conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA about the same time concluded that efficiencies are “substantially increased,” with pre-cooling, even in climates where there is high humidity. Another study conducted in 2009 by Hong Kong Polytechnic University came to the same conclusions.

Greenway–s work on pre-cooling technology has been gaining recognition by engineers and commercial building owners. The technology won the Harvey Mudd College/TechAmerica High-Tech Innovation Award for Green Engineering in 2011.

“To our knowledge, Greenway is the first company to successfully deploy a patented energy-saving solution of this type for commercial and residential air conditioning,” says Jakubik.

The company also reports use of two other patented technologies in the deployment of its Cool-n-Save system. One is an environmentally friendly chemical water treatment system called Cool Release. The other technology is a high efficiency water treatment and pump system used in large-scale commercial installations.

“We–ve been at this work for more than five years,” says Jakubik. “We have learned how to get the most from pre-cooling and create one of the most cost-effective ways to save energy.”
