Green Sounds a Good Note: The 2013 JUNO Awards Chooses 100 Per Cent Green Energy from Bullfrog Power(R)

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwired) — 04/11/13 — Having that Bruce Cockburn will be acting as The 2013 JUNO Awards Sustainability Ambassador, The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and Bullfrog Power are making a major environmental announcement: the 42nd annual JUNO Awards will be bullfrogpowered with 100 per cent clean, renewable electricity. Set to take place from April 15 to 21, 2013, in Regina and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the 2013 JUNO Awards will feature an awards broadcast hosted by world-famous Canadian musician, Michael Buble.

This year, CARAS will bullfrogpower 230 MWh, equivalent to the amount of electricity used by more than 1000 Canadian households for a week. By choosing green energy from Bullfrog Power, CARAS is reducing the environmental footprint of the Awards and educating the public about the importance of renewable energy in Canada. The 2013 JUNO Awards is continuing its tradition of being at the forefront of sustainability, marking the sixth year that Bullfrog has partnered with CARAS. This will be the first year that more than 550 hotel rooms required for JUNO Week events, and the third year that all of the electricity requirements of the CARAS office and all JUNO Awards events, will be bullfrogpowered.

“The JUNO Awards are the perfect opportunity to communicate to artists, industry representatives, and communities across Canada about the importance of taking action for people and the planet,” said Chris Topping, Vice President, Events & Special Programming, CARAS / The JUNO Awards. “Bullfrog Power provides an accessible way for all Canadians to do something about climate change and support the development of renewable energy systems in Canada.”

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power–s generators inject renewable electricity onto the grid to match the amount of power the CARAS office and JUNO Awards events use. Bullfrog–s electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogo(M) program- instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear. Bullfrog Power uses the collective demand of its customers to support the development of green energy projects in Canada.

“Working with CARAS continues Bullfrog–s longstanding collaboration with artists and events across Canada to reduce their environmental impact and raise awareness about actions we can all take to address air pollution and climate change,” said Josephine Coombe, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power.

Across the country, notable Canadian artists such as Measha Brueggergosman, Dave Carroll, Gord Downie, Dave Gunning, Chris McKhool of the Sultans of String and Anne Murray among many others, are supporters of clean, green energy with Bullfrog Power for their homes. Moreover, many leading Canadian musicians have bullfrogpowered their tours, concerts or companies, including The Tragically Hip, Billy Talent, Blue Rodeo, and k-os.
