NEWBURYPORT, MA — (Marketwire) — 09/13/11 — Since March 2011 (continuing through the end of September) , a customer-focused firm specializing in the management of oil and hazardous waste, has been under contract with the Hooksett Sewer Commission to track and recover millions of sewage disks that were released March 7 from a wastewater treatment plant in Hooksett, N.H. As fall begins, ENPRO reports that the majority of the cleanup is wrapping up: to date, it is estimated that more than 4 million disks have been recovered from total of 4.3 million that were determined to have been released, ranging from as far north as Scarborough, ME to East Matunuck, RI in southern New England.

While we still continue to find small numbers of disks on the beaches, the number is drastically reduced from what it was a few months ago.”
The Blue Ocean Society invites volunteers to get involved in a thorough cleaning of the coast during the New Hampshire Coastal Cleanup on September 16-17.
