Clean Air America Assists South Puget Sound Community College to Meet LEED Gold Certification With Welding Booths

ATLANTA, GA — (Marketwire) — 10/04/11 — , Inc., innovator in air filtration products that protect workers and the environment, recently assisted South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) meet LEED Gold certification. SPSCC trains students to become employed as welders in the building trades, shipbuilding, bridge construction, welding fabrication, and maintenance repair work in a state-of-the-art facility.

“Typically, the welding process generates large amounts of smoke and dust that can be unhealthy for students to breath while learning welding skills,” said John Goss, advisor, South Puget Sound Community College Welding Program. “We chose the Clean Air WeldStation 5 because it works perfectly to keep clean the entire weld lab, which operates five days/week from 7AM – 9PM. By utilizing these weld stations, we were able to meet the Gold Certification for LEED buildings and guarantee a superior quality for our indoor environment.”

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The LEED green building rating system — developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington D.C.-based, nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders — is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase profitability while reducing the negative environmental impacts of buildings and improving occupant health and well-being. LEED-certified buildings are designed to be healthier and safer for occupants, while saving energy costs.

The school installed the Clean Air WeldStation 5 Series in their weld lab to capture weld smoke and grinding dust. The WeldStation 5 is a one piece, self-contained welding work center that effectively and efficiently removes all welding smoke and grinding dust so that the weld lab has crystal clean air for students to breath.

The Clean Air WeldStation 5 meets LEAF (Low Energy Air Filtration) standards, industry standards for greener products and work environments and provides energy savings of up to 80% by incorporating Smart Start (automatic start stop), VFD (variable frequency drive), LED lights, high efficiency blowers and premium efficiency motors. Being LEAF-certified helped SPSCC meet LEED certification.
