Since the conditions a cargo ship faces are quite variable, the engines were set equal in terms of performance, rotational frequency and consumption, as recommended by an engineer of the engine–s manufacturer. This allowed the test team to compare the consumption of the two engines. The left and right engines were compared after the BE-Fuelsaver® type XXL was placed into the day tank of the starboard–s engine. When comparing the consumption after having covered Dillingen – Rotterdam – Antwerp and back to Dillingen 4 times, the fuel saved was 6.2% which is quite a remarkable result for a diesel-consuming engine.
