Allan Russell, newly appointed President & CEO of , is an award-winning civil engineer, an exceptionally experienced project and business manager, a skilled team leader–and a passionate soccer player.

“I–ve played all my life, and I–ve coached for more than 16 years. It–s a terrific sport,” says Russell. “You truly have to work as a team to succeed. It–s a very strategic game, so it tests you constantly. As a coach, I also get an immense amount of satisfaction watching the kids develop their skills and doing their best, and enjoying themselves while they–re doing it.”

“My soccer playing is probably the reason I was originally hired by McElhanney,” adds Russell with a straight face. “They needed me on their office team.” That–s a tongue-in-cheek nod to Past President & CEO Chris Newcomb, also a keen soccer player and avid recruiter for McElhanney–s social team. But while Newcomb certainly appreciates Russell–s soccer skills, he says that it–s Russell–s proven leadership ability and his extensive engineering and business management resume that have earned him the role of President & CEO. “Allan has clearly demonstrated the energy, skill and vision necessary to lead McElhanney forward into the future,” says Newcomb. “I–m delighted that he accepted this role.”

With more than 25 years– experience in major civil construction projects, Russell has been involved with many of British Columbia–s most prominent capital projects over the last two decades, including design management roles on the Sea to Sky Highway expansion, the Golden Ears Bridge and the South Fraser Perimeter Road. He has also actively participated on both the and Boards of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (he served as Chair of the BC Board of ACEC).

“It–s very satisfying to step into this role and apply my career experience and personal skills and energy to taking McElhanney forward,” says Russell. “McElhanney has a long tradition of quality and innovation that has made it very successful. The people here are all incredibly dedicated,” says Russell. “I–m very much looking forward to working with the McElhanney team as President & CEO to take the company to the next level of excellence and success.”

Although stepping down as President & CEO after more than 15 years, Chris Newcomb won–t be handing in his cleats altogether. He will remain Board Chair of McElhanney and a regular at office soccer games, and take on new challenges as Senior Vice President.
