ACT Aurora Control Technologies Launches Ground-Breaking Technology for Solar Cell Manufacturing Optimization

NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — (Marketwired) — 11/25/14 — ACT Aurora Control Technologies Corp. (“Aurora” or the “Company”) (TSX VENTURE: ACU) is pleased to announce a novel visualization and control software product to enable solar cell manufacturers to optimize the diffusion process.

The new Veritas technology maps the measurements from Aurora–s Decima back to the location in the furnace for perfect visualization. Veritas allows manufacturers to manage and control the performance of each diffusion furnace, a key early step in the production of solar cells. Veritas monitors the quality of each and every wafer from the diffusion furnaces, compares them with specifications and alarms operators when an off-specification issue or problematic trend arises.

Production operators quickly detect, diagnose, and resolve process issues as well as proactively adjust and optimize the diffusion furnace parameters leading to higher yield of top quality cells.

Aurora management firmly believes the patent-pending technology will generate substantial cost savings for solar cell manufacturers and have a material impact on increasing their profitability.

Veritas was recently showcased at the 2014 Taiwan International Photovoltaic Exhibition October 22 – 24, 2014.

“Our Veritas technology generated considerable interest both with solar cell manufacturers and our business partners, particularly with respect to its ability to reveal spatially-resolved diffusion performance and batch-to-batch trends,” said Greg Ayres, Aurora–s Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Ayres went on to say that “An Aurora customer, benefiting from a pre-released version of the Aurora software said, –this is a very sensitive tool to see exactly what we are producing and where it is coming from.– This customer has been able to compare end-to-end profiles from several diffusion furnaces, diagnose inconsistent performance, and focus efforts on improving process uniformity.”

In the manufacturing of solar cells it is crucial to measure and control all steps of the process in order to optimize the quality and throughput of the high volume production lines. The Aurora solution provides accurate and repeatable measurements of the diffusion process and continuously monitors and alarms product failing to meet specifications. The benefits of tight monitoring and control of every wafer are reduced downgraded cells, higher average cell electrical efficiency, increased production line throughput, and elimination of manually intensive sampling and testing of wafers by lab technicians.
